The tax is included in the Health Reform Bill for a reason. It's another example of the government intruding into our lives. They are it doing under the guise that we can't make intellegent, informed decisions and that they know what's best for us. In short, we need to be taken care of.

"Tanning salon owners are outraged. They say the new tax is the last thing they need in a struggling economy. But dermatologists hope the new tax will deter indoor tanning — which they say is every bit as dangerous as baking in the sun — the same way tobacco taxes have helped cut down on smoking."

Many people who don't go to tanning salons don't give a damn about the tax, because it doesn't affect them. Just as many people who don't smoke or drink couldn't care less about exorbitant taxes on tobacco and alcohol. But when the government decides that we need even more "protection" against "unhealthy" things, and decides to tax things we do care about, we'll be singing a different tune.
